What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is the connection of millions of computers
to a network. We call that network the internet.
To be able to connect you need to have an internet
service provider (ISP). The ISP will allow you connectivity.
Your ISP enables you to connect from your home computer
to different websites on the ISPs computer or
servers.
Web Hosting Requirements
You need an administrator, software, hardware and connectivity.
Administrator:
will monitor the server, run back-ups, run traffic reports
and monitor site responsiveness.
Software:
we use Windows NT or Linux.
Hardware:
servers consist of network devices such as switches
and routers. In addition it will have tape
back-ups.
Connectivity:
ISP allows connectivity. At the minimum you will require
T1 connectivity.
